The Miami Heat come into tonight's game up 1-0 in the best of seven Eastern Conference Semi-Final series versus the sixth seed Brooklyn Nets. Miami is fresh off an impressive 107-86 victory in Game 1 against the Nets on Tuesday. Throughout the game the Heat displayed a much higher level of energy than the Brooklyn Nets, who were only two days removed from a Game 7 victory against the Toronto Raptors that lead them to advance to the current second round series with the Heat. The Heat were attacking the rim from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Miami completely dominated the paint, as they outscored the Nets by 58-28 in the painted area. The defense of Brooklyn resulted in only four fast break points for the Heat, which occurred due to tight half court defense of Brooklyn.
Despite the very few points allowed in transition by the Nets, the Heat overcame the half court style defense with great ball movement. Miami recored 22 assists in the game, while the Nets only recored 11 assists in the game. The ability to move the ball and score inside with ease resulted in the Heat shooting 56.8% from the field, which is the best field goal % the Heat have posted in over two months.
Miami's defense was also very good against the Nets on Tuesday, as they were able to force the Nets to play a lot of one-on-one basketball. The Heat were very good at rotating on defense, as they did not give the shooters of the Nets a lot of open looks. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were completely non factors in Game 1, as Pierce scored only eight points on 3-8 shooting while Garnett went scoreless(the first time he went scoreless in playoff career). The Nets are surely going to come out with more energy in Game 2, to give themselves the chance to steal a game and even the series 1-1 before heading to Brooklyn for Games 3 and 4. Miami needs to make sure they match the energy of the Nets, as they are going to have to continue to grind out throughout the game in hopes of earning another victory.
